A 43-year-old British-Nigerian entrepreneur and online personality, Igho Ubiribo, passed away from severe medical complications after undergoing a non-surgical penis enlargement procedure while vacationing in Bangkok, Thailand.
According to findings presented at the Inner West London Coroners’ Court, a UK coroner concluded that the fatal incident was triggered by a pulmonary embolism caused directly by the cosmetic treatment.
Details of the cosmetic procedure and emergency response
The influencer—known online by monikers such as “Tiny,” “Denisi,” and “Ego”—was on a luxury trip with his wife, fashion designer Danielle Simba Allen, when he sought out the cosmetic enhancement in March.
Reports indicate that an unnamed clinic administered 40 millilitres of a solution containing hyaluronic acid and lidocaine into his penis.
Shortly after returning to their hotel following the appointment, Ubiribo began experiencing severe chest pains and lost consciousness.
He was transported to Sukhumvit Hospital, where medical personnel suspected a pulmonary embolism linked to the cosmetic filler.
However, his condition rapidly deteriorated before a planned CT scan could take place. Despite over 100 minutes of intensive resuscitation efforts by emergency medical staff, he was pronounced dead on March 6.
Postmortem findings confirm cause of death
A subsequent postmortem analysis conducted in the UK confirmed the presence of cellular material in Ubiribo’s lungs matching the hyaluronic acid filler injected during the procedure. UK pathologist Dr. John du Parcq noted that these results aligned with initial autopsy findings from Thai medical authorities.
Coroner Jean Harkin officially ruled the death an accident caused by a fatal pulmonary embolism—a life-threatening condition that occurs when a foreign substance or blood clot obstructs the blood vessels supplying the lungs, restricting airflow and severely straining the heart.
Medical risks associated with cosmetic fillers
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are frequently marketed as a non-invasive option to temporarily increase girth, with results typically lasting several months before the substance naturally degrades.
However, medical experts continue to warn of extreme risks associated with injectable fillers in high-risk areas, including potential vascular occlusion, tissue necrosis, and systemic embolisms if the substance inadvertently enters the bloodstream.
Prior to the procedure, Ubiribo had no major underlying cardiovascular conditions, though his medical records indicated a history of joint surgeries, pre-diabetes, and gout.
A high-profile life and extravagant farewell
Ubiribo maintained a substantial social media following of roughly 185,000 on Instagram, where he regularly documented his high-end lifestyle, property portfolio, and international travel.
Following his death, a high-profile funeral service was held in London, attended by prominent figures including Afrobeats star Davido, a childhood friend who paid tribute to Ubiribo during the memorial. Ubiribo was laid to rest in a bespoke gold-plated casket estimated to be worth over $600,000.
The tragedy has sparked renewed public debate regarding the regulation, safety standards, and severe medical risks tied to offshore cosmetic procedures.
