“They grabbed me and dragged me into a building,” Ijebu Igbo victim of gang rape speaks
“On Sunday, I went to collect a key at a place. When I got there, I collected the key from the person. As I was leaving, two guys, Bolu and Ayo, dragged me inside and gang-raped me. I only know one of them whom I often greet but I don’t know the second guy.”
This was the chilling account of a 19-year-old woman who survived a harrowing ordeal in the Oke Sopen area of Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State, leaving the local community in shock and prompting swift police intervention.
The incident, which occurred on August 30, 2026, was officially reported to the authorities two days later on Tuesday, September 1, when the victim’s mother lodged a formal complaint at the Ijebu-Igbo Police Division.
Police launch investigation and arrest primary suspect
Confirming the incident in an official statement on Thursday, September 4, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, Opeyemi Oluborode, disclosed that law enforcement officers acted immediately upon receiving the report.
In line with standard survivor-centred procedures, investigating officers issued the victim a formal Police Medical Form and accompanied her to the General Hospital for comprehensive medical examination and care.
Operatives also visited and secured the crime scene to collect crucial forensic evidence.
Police tracking efforts quickly led to the arrest of one of the named suspects, identified as 20-year-old Ayomide Kamula (referred to as “Ayo”). He is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation.
Manhunt launched for fleeing accomplice
While Kamula remains in police custody, a manhunt has been launched to locate his fleeing accomplice, identified as Boye Balogun (referred to as “Bolu”), who evaded arrest and remains at large.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further in-depth investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the violent assault, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance policy regarding sexual and gender-based violence across the state.
He assured the survivor’s family and the public that a discreet and thorough investigation is ongoing, promising that no effort will be spared until the remaining suspect is apprehended to face the full weight of the law.
