Zambian model, 25, vomits, dies after drinking with friends

The Zambia Police Service has opened an official inquiry into the sudden death of popular 25-year-old model and socialite Lisa Mutambo, who passed away following an evening out with friends in Lusaka.
Authorities confirmed that the incident was reported to Chelstone Police Station after Mutambo was pronounced dead at Victoria Hospital in the early hours of Thursday, August 20, 2026.
Police outline timeline of events
According to police deputy spokesperson Chipo Kaitisha, Mutambo had spent the previous evening at a local hotel—where she worked as an ambassador—alongside two female friends. The group later relocated to another venue in Lusaka to continue socialising.
Between 2:30 AM and 3:00 AM, Mutambo’s boyfriend, identified as Caleb Lisa (also known as Andrew Chimba), picked up the trio.
After dropping off her two friends, he returned with Mutambo to their shared residence in the Kalundu area.
Upon arriving home, Mutambo reportedly began vomiting before losing consciousness. Her boyfriend contacted a friend to help transport her to Victoria Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed she had passed away.
Authorities address assault rumours
In response to circulating social media rumours suggesting Mutambo had been physically assaulted, police clarified that preliminary physical examinations revealed no visible injuries or signs of violence on her body.
Investigators have processed both the primary residence and secondary scenes. Her body was transferred to the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Police stated that further updates will be released as the investigation progresses.
