Veteran gospel music minister and producer Asu Ekiye has publicly announced the conclusion of his 28-year marriage to his wife, Kunemofa.

The singer, widely known as the “Prince of the Niger Delta,” shared the statement on his official Facebook page on Thursday morning, August 20, 2026.

“A journey of growth and reflection”

In a statement reflecting on their time together, Ekiye described their marriage as a deeply personal chapter marked by shared experiences and spiritual growth.

“After 28 years of a deeply personal journey of growth, experience, and reflection, I wish to announce, with a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation, that my marriage to Kunemofa Asu has come to an end,” he wrote.

He added that while the relationship was a significant milestone in his life, he chose to transition into a new season with dignity and gratitude.

Delayed announcement for quiet acceptance

Ekiye clarified that the union formally ended a year prior, in 2025. He explained that his decision to delay the public statement was intentional, giving both parties time to process the transition privately away from public scrutiny.

“For the avoidance of doubt, this marriage ended a year ago,” he stated. “I have deliberately chosen to make this announcement only now, after allowing time to bring the perspective, clarity, and quiet acceptance that such a deeply personal transition deserves.”

The couple, who married in 1998, share four children. Ekiye did not state any specific reasons for the separation.
