Lady calls off wedding after mother-in-law’s comments at introduction

A Nigerian lady, identified on Facebook as Winnie B Onuh, has sparked widespread public debate after revealing that she ended her engagement following a comment made by her prospective mother-in-law during their family introduction.
Winnie explained that despite dating her fiancé for nearly three years and admiring his character, a conversation regarding childbirth and medical intervention led her to re-evaluate the relationship.
The introduction comment
During the introduction ceremony, her fiancé’s mother publicly declared that women in their family deliver naturally and never undergo Caesarean sections. While other guests laughed off the remark and some said ‘Amen’, Winnie later sought clarification from her partner regarding how a medical emergency would be handled.
According to Winnie, her fiancé admitted that his family would not consent to a doctor-recommended C-section, even to save her life or that of their unborn child, advising her instead to pray against such an outcome.
Reaching a final decision
Realising her partner would defer to family traditions over critical medical advice, Winnie ended the engagement two weeks later.
Despite facing backlash from her ex-fiancé’s family and criticism from relatives who viewed her reaction as an overreaction to a hypothetical scenario, Winnie maintained that she could not enter a marriage where her health and safety might be compromised.
