‘I was the married woman expelled from NYSC camp in Ekiti for adultery’ – Ex-corps member speaks
A former corps member has broken her silence following her wrongful expulsion from a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp over allegations of adultery, revealing that the evidence used against her was fabricated.
The victim disclosed that her expulsion was triggered by a fellow corps member whose romantic advances she had repeatedly turned down.
She claimed that the man was always buying material things for her and she assumed they were in platonic friendship until he asked her out.
The former corp member said she told the man immediately that she was married and could not have anything intimate with him.
According to her, the man challenged the authenticity of the information, asking why she did not wear a wedding ring if she was indeed married.
She claimed she consequently cut off communication with the admirer after he failed to respect her boundary.
In an attempt to retaliate, the suspect allegedly used AI tools to generate fake photos and video content depicting her in a compromising situation, presenting the media to camp officials as proof of misconduct.
DG’s intervention and forensic clearance
Following her summary ejection from the orientation exercise, the corps member’s husband filed a formal petition directly to the office of the Director-General of the NYSC, requesting a full review of the incident.
Upon reopening the case, the scheme subjected the digital evidence to forensic analysis, which established that the video and photographic materials were completely computer-generated.
Following the findings, the NYSC management formally tendered an apology to the victim and cleared her to rejoin the orientation camp to complete her service year requirements.
Backlash over disciplinary action
Despite her exoneration, the outcome has sparked public outcry after it was revealed that the perpetrator faced minor administrative penalties rather than criminal prosecution or outright decampment.
According to reports, the corps member who orchestrated the deepfake setup was only handed a one-month extension of service by the scheme’s disciplinary committee.
The lenient sanction has drawn widespread criticism online, with observers calling for stiffer penalties and legal prosecution against individuals who deploy artificial intelligence to defame and frame others.
