The Plateau State Police Command has arrested an additional suspect in connection with the brutal mob killing of 25-year-old model and University of Jos graduate, Ibrahim Mbaya.
The victim, popularly known as “Ibee,” died on Sunday, July 26, 2026, after being severely beaten by a group of individuals—including some of his friends—over allegations involving a stolen mobile phone.
Fourth suspect paraded as manhunt continues
Speaking during a press parade in Jos on Tuesday, July 28, the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the arrest of a fourth suspect identified as Tisloh Joshua.
Joshua was arrested following discreet investigations by operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). He was paraded alongside three suspects who had been previously detained in connection with the fatal assault.
Police confirmed that an active manhunt is currently underway to track down two additional suspects who remain at large.
Details of the investigation
According to the police spokesperson, the command was originally alerted by a citizen who reported that a young man had been rushed to the hospital in critical condition following a severe beating. Mbaya later succumbed to his extensive injuries while receiving treatment.
“Following sustained intelligence gathering and discreet investigation by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), the Command has arrested one Tisloh Joshua for his involvement in the crime,” SP Alabo stated. “The suspect is currently in Police custody while investigation is ongoing. Efforts have also been intensified to apprehend other suspects who are currently at large.”
Police condemn jungle justice
The command reiterated its strong condemnation of extrajudicial killings and mob action, appealing to residents to allow law enforcement agencies to handle criminal allegations.
“The Plateau State Police Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to ensuring that every individual connected with this unfortunate incident is identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” Alabo added, reassuring the victim’s family that justice would be served.
The police urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to continue providing actionable information to assist in keeping communities safe.
