Deaconess Dorcas Awe, the mother of Microsecondnews publisher Mr John Awe, has passed away at the age of 94.
A press statement signed by the family patriarch, Dr Femi Awe, disclosed that she died peacefully at her FESTAC residence on Friday evening, July 17, 2026.
“She had spent the evening listening to gospel music and watching a Yoruba movie before wrapping up the day with the family devotion,” Dr Awe, who is the first son of the deceased, said. He added, “She then retired to her bedroom and took her final sleep. My sister found her in a sleeping position but unresponsive about 10 minutes after she left the living room.”
Dr Awe said his mother would be remembered for her gentle spirit, unflinching faith, and deep devotion to God, whom she had served since she was a teenager in the church choir.
Deaconess Awe was the first daughter of the late Apostle David Omosebi, the first president of the unified Apostolic Gospel Church, Ilesa, Osun State. She was married to the late Pastor M.A. Awe, former District Prophet of The Apostolic Church (Ilesa Area).
Though trained as a seamstress, she dedicated over 40 years of her life to rural evangelism alongside her husband, traversing remote and hard-to-reach villages across southwestern Nigeria. Many of the churches they founded have since grown into major institutions, serving as enduring testaments to their selfless commitment to the work of God.
Following her husband’s death in 1989, she committed her life to mentoring and providing spiritual guidance to her family and community.
Deaconess Awe is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a younger sister, and a brother.
