David Fasetire, a talented 12-year-old midfielder with the Super Accurate Football Academy in Ikotun, Lagos, has made a heartfelt plea to football administrators, corporate organisations, and well-meaning individuals for financial assistance as he fights a cancerous tumour in his neck.

In a widely circulated press release, the young athlete’s family revealed that the illness began early last year and has progressively worsened, exhausting their financial resources.

The medical journey so far

Before being referred to the specialised oncology department at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) for expert care, David’s family sought treatment across multiple institutions:

While friends, colleagues, neighbours, and church members have provided substantial financial support throughout this ordeal, the escalating costs of cancer treatment have completely drained the family’s savings.

A plea to the football community

David, a Junior Secondary School (JSS 1) student at Universal Comprehensive College in Ikotun, is the son of a prominent sports journalist. Despite his current health struggles, his ultimate dream remains to represent Nigeria on the international football stage.

Left with no choice but to seek public intervention, the youngster—affectionately nicknamed “Vivid” by his teammates—has directly petitioned the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), former international players, and philanthropists.

“I am begging them to please kindly help me and my dad,” David pleaded. “I want to play football for Nigeria and make the country proud, but this cancer attack has stopped me from training with my team.”
