A devastating family dispute over eldercare has ended in a double tragedy in Oxford, Georgia, after a 63-year-old man allegedly gunned down his wife of nearly four decades and the couple’s adult daughter.

The suspect, Ralph Mincey, is accused of turning a 9mm handgun on his 37-year-old daughter, Amanda McBrayer, shooting her directly in the head during a heated argument.

Moments later, Mincey allegedly targeted his wife of 38 years, firing the weapon at her as well, according to local law enforcement reports cited by WKRC-TV News.

Ralph Mincey confessed to 911 dispatcher

In newly released emergency audio, a frantic and remorseful Mincey can be heard confessing to the dispatcher immediately after the shooting occurred.

“My wife had told my daughter that I didn’t take care of my mother,” Mincey told the 911 operator. “I do every day and I just shot my daughter and my wife of 38 years. I just, I couldn’t handle no more, the f***ing lying and the way they were screaming at me. I don’t know; I just, I lost it. I’m so sorry. Thirty-eight years. I love her.”

During the phone call, Mincey explicitly stated to authorities that he had used a nine-millimetre pistol to shoot his daughter “right straight to the head.”

A horrific scene

Deputies from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded swiftly to the residence located in the small town of Oxford, approximately 40 miles outside of Atlanta.

Upon entering the home, law enforcement officers discovered a grim scene and immediately took Mincey into custody without further incident.

Amanda McBrayer was tragically pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical responders. Her mother was critically injured and rushed by emergency personnel to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries, the sheriff’s office confirmed.

Witness accounts reveal terror

The victim’s husband, Adam McGrath, provided further insight into the moments leading up to the fatal gunfire.

Speaking with emergency dispatchers, McGrath explained that his wife was visibly upset and intoxicated when she arrived at the home to confront her father, as reported by WXIA-TV.

“I brought her to her parents’ house, and then she got into it with her dad, and her dad said, ‘I’ve got a gun… I’m gonna pull the trigger,’ then shot her in the head,” McGrath recounted to the operator in a state of shock.

McGrath further revealed the terrifying moments that followed, stating that Mincey then grabbed his own wife by the throat, threw her to the ground, and threatened her life before opening fire. “I literally ran away because I had two kids I’ve got to protect, and I’m scared to go back up there,” McGrath added.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that Ralph Mincey has been formally charged with multiple counts of malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault.

He is currently being held in the local detention facility without the option of bail as the investigation continues.
