The media community in Ogun State has been thrown into deep mourning following the brutal murder of a veteran broadcaster and retired staff member of Ogun State Television (OGTV), Mrs Kitan Oyesiku, alongside her private security guard.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 21, 2026, at her private residence located within the Agodo community along the busy Abeokuta–Siun–Sagamu Expressway.
Mrs Kiitan Oyesiku, affectionately known across the state and media circles as “Aunty Kitan,” was a widely recognised and respected personality before she retired from the state-owned television network.
Church members found Kiitan Oyesiku lifeless
While the precise details and motives behind the double murder remain vague, community sources revealed that the horrific scene was first stumbled upon by fellow congregants from her local church.
Alarm bells were raised when the usually punctual retired broadcaster failed to show up for the morning Sunday service without any prior notice. Worried about her sudden absence, a delegation of church members drove down to her Agodo residence to check on her well-being.
“What we heard was that it was some church members who actually discovered this horrendous incident,” an anonymous community source disclosed.
“They had come around to check on Mrs Oyesiku when they did not see her in the church. On getting to her residence, they found out that the security officer had been killed, and they later also saw that the assailants had also killed Mrs Oyesiku. That was how they raised the alarm in the community.”
The frantic distress calls from the church members rapidly drew the attention of neighbours and local community leaders, who subsequently alerted the police authorities.
Police launch investigation into the double murder
A tactical team of police detectives has already processed the property for forensic evidence.
Following the preliminary assessment, the bodies of both Mrs Oyesiku and her security guard were evacuated and deposited at the morgue of the State Hospital in Ijaiye, Abeokuta, for post-mortem examinations.
When contacted via telephone to verify the development, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the double homicide.
He stated that the state command has opened a comprehensive investigation to track down the fleeing assailants, adding that an official statement detailing their findings would be released to the public shortly.
The news of the violent attack has sparked widespread grief and shock across the state, with numerous former colleagues, media executives, and friends calling on security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.
