
A 23-year-old nursing student, Chiamaka Chilaka, has been found dead in her apartment in Uruezeani, Alor, within the Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The state police command has arrested the victim’s landlord following allegations of harassment and an altercation preceding her death.
Chiamaka Chilaka found lifeless
The deceased, identified as Chiamaka Chilaka, was an ND II student at the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor. Originally from Ngor Okpala in Imo State, her lifeless body was discovered on Sunday afternoon following church services.
The tragedy gained widespread attention after a viral social media video surfaced showing her local clergyman weeping uncontrollably over the corpse.
According to local accounts and digital reports circulating within the community, Chilaka had allegedly been subjected to persistent, unwanted advances from her landlord, all of which she rejected.
Neighbours claimed the student was last seen alive during a heated argument with him.
Police find evidence of violence
The spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the landlord’s arrest in an official statement on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
Initial reports from the crime scene indicate severe physical trauma. Responding police operatives noted multiple signs of violence on the victim’s body, including:
A deep laceration on her thigh.
Visible bruising and marks of physical assault.
Heavy blood stains across the apartment floor.
“The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed investigative officers to expedite action on the investigation into the reported suspected murder,” the police statement read.
Case transferred to SCID Awka
To ensure a discreet and comprehensive forensic review, the case has been officially transferred from the Nnobi Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka.
The victim’s body has been moved to a local mortuary for preservation and a mandatory autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.
The Anambra State Police Command has assured the public of a thorough investigation, promising that anyone found responsible for the homicide will face the full weight of the law.
Authorities are urging individuals with relevant eyewitness information or security footage from the area to come forward.
