
A 30-year-old interior and event decorator, Esohe Aigbe, has been killed after she was allegedly attacked at a funeral venue in Benin City, Edo State.
According to relatives, Aigbe volunteered to provide free decoration services as her contribution to a friend’s burial ceremony held on Ujo Street in the Ogida area of the city.
Family members said she remained at the venue after completing the decoration work when unidentified assailants reportedly attacked her.
She sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) for treatment.
However, she later died from her injuries. Her remains have since been deposited in a mortuary.
The tragic incident sparked calls from family members and sympathisers for a thorough investigation and the arrest of those responsible for her death.
In a subsequent development, the Edo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the killing.
Police spokesperson, CSP Eno Ikoedem, disclosed that preliminary investigations linked a suspect identified as Faith to the crime. The suspect has been taken into custody and transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Ikoedem added that detectives are continuing efforts to identify and apprehend other individuals who may have been involved in the attack.
The motive behind the killing has not yet been disclosed by the police.
Authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that all those connected to the crime will be brought to justice.
