A female Uber driver has drawn admiration on social media after remaining calm and composed during an armed robbery involving two men in South Africa.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, May 27, in the Nellmapius area of Pretoria.
The lady was doing her job when the two men encountered her and boarded her vehicle to rob her.
One of the robbers sat in the front seat while the other sat in the back seat.
A video making the rounds online shows the two suspects inside the vehicle while the frightening ordeal unfolded.
One of the men, who sat in the front passenger seat, appeared to be armed as he engaged in conversation with the driver, who cheerfully responded to his questions.
He asked her to transfer money from her account into an account he punched into her phone, and she calmly did so without showing fear.
Despite the tense situation, the woman maintained a calm demeanour throughout the encounter, a reaction many viewers have described as brave and emotionally controlled.
Social media users have since praised her presence of mind and survival instincts during the robbery.
After complying with the robbers’ demands, the driver was heard thanking them before the incident came to an end.
South Africa continues to grapple with persistently high levels of violent crime, although recent reporting periods show a measurable decline in armed and aggravated robberies.
Despite these improvements, overall criminal activity remains at unacceptably high thresholds.
This violence frequently targets working-class households and individuals, with street and opportunistic robberies often carried out using firearms and knives.
Research from public safety platforms indicates that South Africans remain roughly three times more likely to be the victim of an armed robbery today than they were four decades ago, underscoring the deep-seated structural and social challenges driving predatory crime.
