Pastor reportedly killed by kidnappers after delay in paying ransom

A Nigerian pastor identified as Pastor Akor has reportedly been killed by suspected kidnappers after ransom payment for his release was allegedly delayed.
The incident was made public by Abuja-based cleric Peter Attayi Yakubu, who shared the heartbreaking development in a Facebook post on Monday, May 25, 2026.
According to Bishop Yakubu, the late pastor was abducted and allegedly killed just three days later after the kidnappers claimed the ransom was not paid on time.
Expressing grief over the incident, the cleric described the deceased as his former chief usher, who later started his own ministry after receiving spiritual mentorship.
“My heart is bleeding. Oh my son, Pastor Akoh. He was my chief usher. He served faithfully before God instructed him to begin his own ministry, and he was doing well,” Yakubu wrote.
He also revealed that the late pastor had recently invited him to visit his church, with plans for the visit scheduled for September.
“How can kidnappers kill Pastor Akoh within three days because they said the ransom was delayed? Oh God, his wife is even nursing a newborn baby,” the bishop lamented.
As of the time of this report, security authorities had not officially commented on the incident, while details surrounding the abduction and the exact location where it occurred remain unclear.
The killing has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the growing insecurity and rising cases of kidnapping across the country.
The wave of criminality, banditry and hostage-taking blowing across the country has extended to the south west.
On May 15, 2026, armed bandits stormed three schools in the Oriire Local Government area of Oyo State, abducting pupils and teachers, including at least one principal.
One teacher was shot dead during the assault, while another one, Michael Oyedokun, a mathematics teacher, was slaughtered by the terrorists to force the government to stop its rescue efforts.
