A Nigerian woman, identified as Shonoiki Aminat, has raised an alarm on social media after claiming that her mother and brother were abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Ijebu-Ode Expressway in Ogun State.

In a viral video circulating online, Aminat alleged that the incident occurred on May 24 while the victims were travelling along the route.

According to her, a member of the family later called her to alert her that her brother had not been reachable and was not online.

She claimed she told the person that he probably ran out of battery, but was informed that he was carrying a big power bank.

Aminat said she dismissed it and slept only to wake up on Monday to a voicenote from her mother announcing that she was with kidnappers and they were asking for N100 million, which she negotiated down to N50 million.

Aminat further claimed that she immediately called her mother’s line. She said her mother briefly answered the phone and attempted to explain the situation before someone allegedly interrupted the conversation and seized the device from her.

She also stated that her mother informed her that she had not seen her son since the abduction, suggesting they were being held separately.

The emotional appeal has generated widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the growing insecurity on major highways across the country.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not officially confirmed the incident, and there was no immediate statement from the Ogun State Police Command regarding the alleged abduction.

Authorities are expected to investigate the claims as concern continues to grow over incidents of kidnapping and ransom demands on inter-state roads.
