
Residents and students in Imo State have been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of a nursing student, Wendy Achumba, whose body was reportedly discovered inside her off-campus apartment in Umulogho, Obowo Local Government Area.
The disturbing incident, which has continued to generate reactions on social media, has heightened concerns over the safety of students living outside school hostels in the state.
According to reports, the deceased was undergoing post-basic nursing training at the College of Nursing in Umulogho after earlier completing her Midwifery programme.
Wendy, said to be an indigene of Ngwa in Abia State, was reportedly residing in the Umuadara area of Obowo when the tragedy occurred.
Sources said concerns were raised after repeated attempts by friends and relatives to reach her proved unsuccessful, prompting people close to her to visit her residence.
Her body was allegedly discovered inside the apartment under disturbing circumstances, with reports claiming she sustained severe injuries.
The incident has sparked outrage among students and residents, many of whom are demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Some students in the area expressed fear over growing insecurity around off-campus residences, calling on security agencies and school authorities to strengthen safety measures for students.
