‘He died childless after decade-long marriage’, family of teacher killed by bandits lament

The family of Michael Oyedokun, the teacher abducted and later killed during attacks on schools in Oyo State, has spoken about the painful circumstances surrounding his death, revealing that he passed away without having a child despite being married for more than 10 years.
Oyedokun was among several teachers kidnapped during coordinated attacks carried out by armed men in communities within the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The attacks reportedly targeted multiple schools, including Community High School in Ahoro-Esiele, where teachers were abducted by the assailants.
Other schools affected during the incident were Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, and LA Primary School in Ogbomoso.
Apart from the abducted teachers, the violence also claimed the lives of an assistant headmaster identified as Joel Adesiyan and a commercial motorcyclist.
Following the attacks, the Oyo State Government ordered the temporary closure of schools in the affected communities while security agencies intensified rescue operations.
Public outrage grew after a disturbing video surfaced online showing the late teacher restrained and speaking under pressure shortly before his death.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Ebeni Adediran described Oyedokun as a peaceful and devoted teacher who dedicated over two decades of his life to education.
According to the family, Michael Oyedokun began his education in Oke Ogun before attending Ogbomoso Baptist High School and later furthering his studies.
They explained that he worked as a teacher for about 21 years and had only recently been transferred back to his hometown after years of service elsewhere.
Family members recalled that he remained closely connected to his relatives and frequently visited his parents on weekends or at least twice monthly.
Describing him as calm and accommodating, the family said his death had created a painful void that would be difficult to replace.
They added that one of the most heartbreaking aspects of the tragedy was that Oyedokun died without leaving behind a child.
According to the family, he and his wife had struggled for over a decade to have children but were unsuccessful before his death.
Relatives said the loss had become even more painful because there would be no child to continue his lineage.
The family also appealed to Nigerians to stop sharing graphic videos and images linked to the incident, saying the circulation of such content has worsened their emotional trauma.
They expressed appreciation to members of the public for the support and sympathy shown since the tragedy occurred, but urged people to respect the family’s grief and privacy during the difficult period.
