Tragedy struck in the Sangotedo area of Lagos State after a shawarma vendor identified simply as Andy was reportedly shot dead by suspected cultists.

The incident was said to have happened on Saturday evening while the victim was attending to customers at his business spot near the ShopRite area in Sangotedo.

According to sources familiar with the development, the attackers allegedly approached the stand pretending to be customers before suddenly pulling out guns and opening fire at close range.

Andy was reportedly shot in the head, while the assailants fled the scene immediately after the attack, leaving residents in shock.

A police source said officers later arrived at the scene and evacuated the victim’s body.

“The suspects reportedly acted like customers who wanted to buy shawarma before they suddenly brought out firearms and shot him,” the source disclosed.

Although police authorities have yet to officially confirm the motive behind the killing, an anti-cultism monitoring platform, Confra Naija, claimed the attack was cult-related.

The platform described the deceased, popularly known as “Aboki De Junior,” as a peaceful and hardworking businessman from Benue State who maintained friendly relationships with many people in the area.

A video circulating online showed emotional scenes at the crime scene, with residents gathering around the victim’s body while some mourners wept openly.

A woman believed to be related to the deceased was also seen crying uncontrollably beside his body.

Efforts to get an official reaction from the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, were unsuccessful as calls and messages sent to her phone line were not answered as of the time of filing this report.

The latest incident adds to growing concerns over cult-related violence in parts of Lagos, particularly along the Lekki-Ajah corridor, Ikorodu, Mushin, and other areas where rival groups have repeatedly clashed in recent years.
