Woman found raped, killed while returning from church in Lagos

A woman in her 60s, identified as Victoria Adegoke, has allegedly been raped and strangled in the Ilogbo-Eremi area of Badagry, Lagos State.
The incident reportedly occurred last Friday while the deceased was returning from a church programme in the community.
According to reports, residents discovered her body in a nearby bush at about 6:10 a.m. Community members alleged that she may have been assaulted and strangled before her body was abandoned at the scene.
A local community leader, who spoke anonymously, said the deceased had attended a programme at The Joy of Christ Ministry, also known as Ayo Jesu Church, and had stayed with a relative who lived close to the church premises.
The source explained that she was reportedly attacked while making her way home in the early hours of the morning.
“The deceased is someone I know. Her daughter lives abroad. She attended a church programme that ended a few days earlier and stayed with one of her siblings near the church. It was while she was returning home around six in the morning that she was allegedly attacked,” the source said.
The community leader further claimed that some of the woman’s belongings, including her ATM card and Bible, were recovered at the scene, while her mobile phone was reportedly missing.
Another resident, who also requested anonymity over security concerns, described the area along the Lagos-Ogun boundary as notorious for violent crimes.
According to the resident, similar incidents have allegedly been recorded in the community in the past.
“This is not the first case of this nature in the area. The community has witnessed several violent incidents over time, which is why residents are usually advised to be cautious,” the source stated.
The resident added that the woman was found without some of her clothing before security operatives arrived at the location.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos State had yet to officially comment on the incident.
