A 20-year-old Nigerian man has died following a violent attack in a public park in Madrid, Spain, with authorities confirming the arrest of a suspect.

The incident occurred at about 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, in Paraíso Park, located in the San Blas district of the Spanish capital.

According to reports, the victim—identified only by the initials D. O.—was attacked during a confrontation with another man.

Witnesses said the altercation escalated quickly before the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and inflicted multiple injuries to the victim’s chest.

Despite approximately 30 minutes of intensive medical intervention, the young man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, described as a 38-year-old Moroccan national, fled the area on foot after the incident but was later apprehended on Emilio Ferrari Street, a short distance from the park.

Authorities noted that he had visible bloodstains at the time of arrest, although the weapon used in the attack was not recovered.

Eyewitnesses reportedly identified the suspect, with some describing him as homeless and struggling with substance abuse.

Preliminary investigations suggest the altercation may have been linked to a dispute involving narcotics, according to local media reports.

The area where the attack occurred has reportedly witnessed similar violent episodes in the past and is known for issues related to drug activity.
