Police in Kumasi have arrested a 48-year-old businessman, Francis Arthur, over the death of his girlfriend, Sally Benson, following a reported domestic dispute.
The incident reportedly occurred on April 14, 2026, at the suspect’s residence in the Ayigya-Maxima area, where Benson had gone alongside a female friend after allegedly hearing that another woman had visited Arthur.
Sources say tensions escalated when Arthur returned home, leading to a heated argument between the couple. During the confrontation, Arthur is alleged to have assaulted Benson, after which she collapsed.
In what authorities believe may have been an attempt to seek help, the suspect reportedly transported her in her own vehicle to KNUST Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed her dead on arrival.
Arthur was subsequently arrested and arraigned before the Asokore Mampong District Court, where he was remanded in police custody. He is expected to reappear in court on May 8, 2026, as investigations continue.
Reacting to the incident, the deceased’s father, Gabriel Oppong, called for justice, urging authorities to ensure that due process is followed.
The case has sparked concern within the local community, with many calling for accountability as police continue their investigation.
