A Nigerian woman based in the United Kingdom, Omotayo Abioye, has died after battling breast cancer, prompting her family to appeal for public support for her burial and the care of her three children.
Her death was disclosed in a statement shared on X by a former President of Nigerians in the UK, Benjamin Kuti, who said she passed away on April 5 at the age of 40.
The family described the deceased as a devoted mother, loving wife, and compassionate individual who positively impacted many lives, noting that she fought the illness with courage.
They said she was known for her warmth, generosity, and lively spirit, adding that her life reflected resilience, faith, and hope despite her health challenges.
Abioye is survived by three children aged 11, 9, and 7.
The family called on Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to support ongoing fundraising efforts aimed at giving her a dignified burial and assisting her children.
As of the time of filing this report, her GoFundMe page, opened four days ago by Jide Abioye, has garnered over £1,420, with the target set at £10,000.
Her death adds to recent cases involving Nigerians in the UK lost to serious illnesses.
