Authorities in Thailand have arrested a French couple after they were allegedly caught engaging in a sexual act on a remote beach in Phuket, sparking outrage among locals and tourists.
The pair, identified as Halan, 24, and Nadia, 24, were reportedly seen at Rayee Beach on April 10 in what eyewitnesses described as a public display that shocked onlookers.
Footage from the scene allegedly showed the couple engaging in the act on the sand in full view of passers-by, with residents claiming they made no effort to conceal themselves.
They were both in their birthday suits.
Some locals criticised the incident, describing it as disrespectful to cultural norms and urging stricter enforcement of public conduct laws in tourist areas.
Following complaints, police launched a search and later traced the couple to a hotel in the Kathu district of Phuket, where they were arrested.
The pair reportedly admitted to the act and were fined 5,000 baht (about £115) each for committing an indecent act in public under Thai law.
A police spokesperson said officers informed the couple that their actions were illegal, adding that they claimed they were unaware and got carried away while on holiday.
Authorities also confirmed that immigration officials have been notified for possible visa review following the incident.
