The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Otamiri Prince, over the alleged kidnapping and sexual violation of a female job seeker in Port Harcourt.
The police said the suspect met the victim online, after which they agreed to meet at a designated location.
However, upon arrival, he and his accomplices allegedly lured her to Igwuruta before taking her to a bush in a neighbouring community, where she was assaulted and dispossessed of her valuables.
The command disclosed that the arrest followed a formal complaint lodged on April 11, 2026, prompting an immediate investigation by operatives.
The spokesperson for the command, Blessing Agabe, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Sunday in Port Harcourt.
According to her, the victim, identified as Thomas Alice, 24, told police she was abducted on January 3, 2026, by a man she met online.
“She was lured to Igwuruta and subsequently moved by accomplices to a bush in Ulakwo, Etche Local Government Area, where she was assaulted and robbed before being released,” the statement read.
The police added that intelligence-driven investigation methods aided the arrest of the suspect.
Iringe-Koko noted that the suspect had confessed to the crime, while items recovered from him included an iPhone, a wig believed to belong to the victim, and other valuables.
She said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang who are currently at large, adding that the suspect would be charged in court upon conclusion of investigations.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Olugbenga Adepoju, advised women and job seekers to exercise caution when engaging with individuals met online.
He urged them to avoid meeting strangers in secluded areas, verify identities before physical meetings, and always inform trusted persons of their whereabouts to enhance personal safety.
