Outrage as viral video shows man openly exploiting mentally challenged woman in Lagos (Video)

Widespread outrage has trailed disturbing viral videos showing men allegedly exploiting mentally challenged women in public spaces in separate incidents captured in Lagos and Edo states.

In one of the clips circulating online, a young man in a shirt, jeans and sneakers was seen engaging in an immoral act with a mentally unstable woman by the roadside in Lagos in broad daylight, while passers-by reportedly watched and recorded the scene.

A male voice, believed to be the person filming, was heard expressing shock, repeatedly muttering ‘Lagos, Nigeria’ with disbelief. He also suggested that the act might be linked to ritual practices, though no evidence has been provided to support the claim.

In another video recorded from a moving vehicle, a visibly distressed woman was heard shouting “Jesus” repeatedly as the car passed the scene. She also speculated that the act could be connected to “juju.”

Moments later, the same woman urged the driver, identified as Ijele, to stop so she could film more of the incident.

The videos have since sparked intense debate on social media, with many Nigerians condemning both the act and the apparent inaction of witnesses at the scene.

Amid the backlash, a user on X, Amaka Ike, shared a separate clip allegedly recorded at Ekpoma Market Square in Edo State, showing a similar incident involving another man and a mentally challenged woman.

“Is this a new trend or what?” she wrote, expressing concern over what appears to be a disturbing pattern.

Unlike the Lagos incident, however, eyewitnesses in the Ekpoma video were seen confronting the man and forcing him to disengage from the woman.

Social media reactions have been swift and critical, with users questioning the mental state of the perpetrators and the moral responsibility of onlookers.

One user, @iam_presider, wrote, “How can a stable man be publicly involved with a mad woman? Something must be wrong.”

Another user, @chidextech1, also condemned the act, describing it as shocking and unacceptable.

The incidents have reignited concerns about the safety and protection of vulnerable persons, particularly those living with mental health conditions, as well as the growing trend of bystanders recording distressing situations instead of intervening.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from law enforcement authorities regarding the incidents.
