The body of a man, Ebubechukwu Ihionu, who was earlier reported missing amid the recent unrest in Jos, has been discovered in a hospital mortuary.
The deceased, identified as Ebubechukwu Ihionu, had been declared missing by his family on April 1, 2026, during the height of violent disturbances in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Confirmation of the discovery came from Danja Dafwam Yaks, who disclosed in a Facebook post that Ihionu’s remains were located on Thursday, April 2, at the mortuary of the Plateau State Specialist Hospital.
The incident is linked to the wave of unrest that followed tensions sparked by a Palm Sunday attack in Angwan Rukuba, an episode that significantly heightened anxiety across parts of the city.
What began as localised tension soon escalated into widespread disturbances, with violence erupting around 9:30 a.m. in the Nasarawa area of Jos North.
The unrest quickly spread to several flashpoints, including Katako Junction, Farin Gada, Gada Biu, Angwan Rogo, Rikos, and surrounding communities.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that hoodlums exploited the situation to unleash attacks on properties and further inflame tensions, raising fears of a broader communal conflict.
Security forces, including troops from the Headquarters 3 Division of the Nigerian Army under Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), were swiftly deployed alongside other security agencies. Their coordinated intervention helped to bring the situation under control and prevent a full-scale breakdown of law and order.
The discovery of Ihionu’s body now adds a tragic dimension to the crisis, as residents and authorities continue to assess the human toll of the unrest.
