Hospital where doctor beat naked new mother faces sanctions (Video)
Doctor risks losing licence as disciplinary panel reviews case

Authorities are investigating Kinkole General Hospital in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, after a video surfaced showing Dr. David Balangakayi allegedly assaulting a woman shortly after she gave birth.
The footage, widely circulated on social media, reportedly captures the doctor physically striking the patient after she refused to allow him to suture a tear sustained during delivery.
The viral video of the incident shows that the woman was completely naked as Dr Balangakayi, with white latex gloves in his hands, tries to grab hold of the patient while repeatedly striking her.
The embattled doctor later claimed that he was only trying to save the life of the patient because she was bleeding.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage among the public and condemnation from medical professionals, who insist that violence against patients is never acceptable.
Medical experts in obstetrics and gynaecology have emphasised that patient consent is a fundamental principle of care, even in emergencies.
They advise that when a patient declines treatment, healthcare providers should explain the risks, document the refusal, and seek additional support—not resort to force.
Observers have described the alleged assault as a grave violation of medical ethics, human rights, and professional standards, cautioning that such behaviour could carry criminal consequences.
Authorities are reportedly taking disciplinary action against the doctor, with a review panel considering sanctions that could include revoking his medical licence.
