Singers Nathaniel Bassey, Peter Okoye, react to Jos massacre

Nigerian music stars Peter Okoye and Nathaniel Bassey have expressed grief following a fatal attack in Jos, Plateau State, which left several residents dead and others injured.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Sunday at a bar located in the Gari Ya Waye area of Jos North Local Government Area. 

Gunmen, whose identities remain unknown, allegedly stormed the venue and opened fire on people gathered there. 

At least 12 individuals were confirmed dead, while others sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical attention.

Reacting to the tragedy, Peter Okoye, who hails from Plateau State, shared his sorrow on X, saying his heart was heavy and offering prayers for the people of Jos.

Nathaniel Bassey also took to the platform, delivering a message of hope and resilience. He declared that the city would not be overcome by violence and expressed confidence that peace would prevail.

In response to the attack, the Plateau State Government announced a 48-hour curfew in Jos North. 

The restriction began at midnight on Sunday and is expected to remain in place until April 1. Officials explained that the move is intended to prevent further unrest and allow security agencies to stabilise the area.

Authorities have since condemned the incident, describing it as an unprovoked act of violence.
