A Magistrate Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, Ogun State, has ordered the remand of a 37-year-old nurse, Kehinde Adesanya, for 60 days over her alleged involvement in the death of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Victoria Ariyo.
Adesanya was arraigned on Thursday before Magistrate O. Sam-Obaleye and is facing a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful abortion, and murder.
According to police prosecutor Solomon Babalola, the alleged offences were committed between January and March 2026 in the Ikereku area of Laderin, Abeokuta. He told the court that the defendant allegedly supplied drugs intended to terminate a pregnancy, which reportedly led to the death of the 23-year-old corps member.
The charges include conspiracy to commit felony, unlawful attempt to procure abortion, conspiracy to commit murder, and unlawful killing, all under relevant provisions of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
Following the arraignment, the prosecution requested that the defendant be remanded pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The court granted the application and ordered that Adesanya be held at the Ibara Correctional Centre.
The case has been adjourned to May 26, 2026.
Police investigations further revealed that the deceased, Victoria Ariyo, was allegedly in a relationship with Abass Olalekan, identified as an NYSC inspector in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, which reportedly resulted in the pregnancy.
Olalekan had earlier been arraigned before Magistrate A.K. Araba on two counts of conspiracy and attempt to procure abortion. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N500,000.
The case continues to draw attention as authorities intensify investigations into the circumstances surrounding the corps member’s death.
