Nanny accused of sexually molesting 5-year-old girl in New York
Child undergoes emergency surgery

A 27-year-old man has been arraigned in a Long Island court in New York over allegations that he assaulted a five-year-old girl he was hired to babysit, leaving the child with serious injuries that required emergency surgery.
The suspect, identified as Carlos Aguilar Reynoso, a Guatemalan national, was caring for the child on February 1, 2026, while her mother was at work.
Prosecutors allege that instead of looking after the girl, he subjected her to a violent attack.
According to court proceedings, the incident came to light when the child’s mother returned home and was told by her daughter that she was in pain.
Initially suspecting a minor issue, the mother reportedly discovered blood on the child’s clothing while assisting her, prompting immediate concern.
The girl was rushed to Peconic Bay Medical Centre, where doctors identified serious internal injuries. She was later transferred to Cohen Children’s Medical Centre, where she underwent emergency surgery, authorities said.
Prosecutors told the court that the child later disclosed details of the alleged assault, leading to a swift police investigation. Reynoso was arrested the following day, though officials said he initially resisted arrest.
During the arraignment, Assistant District Attorney Sean Murphy outlined the severity of the allegations. The suspect, who required an interpreter in court, reportedly showed little reaction during proceedings.
Reynoso now faces multiple felony charges, including first-degree rape and predatory sexual assault against a child. If convicted, he could face a sentence ranging from 25 years to life imprisonment.
Authorities also disclosed that the suspect was initially charged with child endangerment—an offence that is not eligible for bail under New York law.
However, federal immigration agents later took him into custody as he was being processed for release.
He has been remanded without bail and is expected to return to court on April 27, 2026.
