Musician captured on CCTV camera removing his clothes before raping patient at US care home

A 39-year-old musician has been charged with serious offences following allegations that he assaulted a 61-year-old woman living with Alzheimer’s disease at a care facility in Los Angeles.
The suspect, identified as Jonathan Michael Alvarado, was reportedly contracted to perform music for residents at the facility, known as The Palms La Mirada.
Authorities say he is facing felony charges, including rape and elder abuse.
According to reports, the alleged incident occurred in June 2025 and was captured, in part, by surveillance footage installed in the victim’s room by her daughter, Camyl Anderson, who had set up the system to monitor her mother’s well-being.
Anderson said she was shocked after reviewing the footage, which showed a man in her mother’s room before leaving her alone. She immediately contacted law enforcement after witnessing the disturbing scene.
Police later arrested Alvarado, who had been volunteering as a piano player at the facility, entertaining residents.
In addition to the criminal case, a $25 million lawsuit has been filed against the operators of the care home. The suit alleges systemic failures, including lapses in supervision, access control, and resident protection, which it claims created conditions that enabled the incident.
In a statement to media outlet ABC News, the facility said it was “disturbed by these allegations” and emphasised that the safety and well-being of residents remain its top priority, adding that it would fully cooperate with investigators.
Authorities have not disclosed further details as the case proceeds.
