Canadian-based model Valeria Lipovetsky trends after sharing photos from Tanzanian tribal visit

Canadian-based model and travel influencer Valeria Lipovetsky is trending across social media platforms following the release of striking “before-and-after” photos documenting her visit to indigenous communities in Tanzania.

Some of the ‘after’ photos show her looking sweaty and exhausted, with her eyes glazed over, fueling naughty comments from netizens.

The ‘before’ pictures she posted show her in the local market, all-glam up, smiling into her selfie camera with two African tribesmen grinning behind her.

She wrote in the caption that the men had invited her into their home.

Lipovetsky followed up with pictures of herself in the same dress inside the hut of the men. In one of the photos, she is lying down, looking tired, while in another, she leans against the mud wall.

The intent of the influencer is to show herself immersed in the daily life of the Hadza people—one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes in East Africa.

The photos capture a stark contrast between her usual polished, urban lifestyle and her experience living among tribespeople in traditional huts, sparking widespread conversation about cultural immersion, authenticity, and the role of influencers in documenting indigenous communities.

Social media users have reacted with mixed opinions. While some praised the influencer for stepping outside her comfort zone and showcasing lesser-known cultures, others questioned the ethics of such portrayals, particularly regarding consent, representation, and the potential commodification of indigenous lifestyles.

Others completely went off tangent, by openly wondering if the influencer also intimately explored the private lives of the men she stayed with.

The Hadza community, located in northern Tanzania, is known for maintaining a traditional way of life centred on hunting and gathering, with minimal reliance on modern technology. 

Anthropological studies describe them as one of the few groups that still largely depend on subsistence living in the wild.

Lipovetsky, who has built a global following through lifestyle, fashion, and travel content, has increasingly incorporated cultural and experiential travel into her brand, often highlighting interactions with local communities during her trips.

The viral nature of the photos underscores a growing trend in influencer culture, where creators seek deeper, more “authentic” travel experiences beyond luxury destinations. 

As of now, Lipovetsky has not publicly addressed the backlash, but the images continue to generate engagement and discussion across platforms, further amplifying conversations about how global audiences consume and interpret such content.
