The Delta State Police Command has launched an investigation following disturbing reports that several women were sexually assaulted during a local festival in Ozoro, Delta State.

The incident, which reportedly occurred on Thursday, March 19, 2026, has sparked widespread outrage after videos surfaced online showing groups of young men harassing and attacking women in public spaces.

According to accounts circulating on social media, the annual festival allegedly includes a controversial practice where women are expected to remain indoors.

Reports claim that any woman seen outside during the event becomes a target for harassment and assault by participants.

Eyewitness videos show chaotic scenes of men chasing women along the streets, with victims crying out for help as the attacks unfolded.

Some reports have also alleged cases of rape, though authorities have yet to officially confirm the extent of the incidents.

Some of the clips were captioned, “raping festival in Ozoro’, or “raping feast in Ozoro”.

Some eyewitnesses claim that the practice lasts seven days every year, and often leads to women being raped.

A man filmed the front of a shopping complex and commented that, despite the venue being densely populated, no women could be seen around.

“Any woman who makes the mistake of coming out, all these boys will chase after her and molest her”, he said as he showed a group of boys milling around.

He commented that the tradition was giving Ozoro a bad name and ought to be stopped.

Confirming police involvement, the spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, said arrests had already been made in connection with the festival.

He added that a detailed statement would be released as the investigations progressed.

The development has triggered strong reactions from Nigerians, many of whom have condemned the alleged actions and called for justice for the victims, as well as stricter enforcement of laws to protect women.
