A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps, identified simply as Lucky and popularly known as Malouda, has reportedly died after collapsing on a football pitch in Abuja.
The young man, a graduate of Sociology from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, was said to have slumped during a football training session on Thursday evening, March 19, 2026.
Incident during training
According to reports, the incident occurred while he was actively participating in the session. Those present immediately attempted to assist him, but efforts to revive him at the scene were unsuccessful.
He was later confirmed dead, bringing a sudden end to what appeared to be a routine sporting activity.
Shock and grief
News of his passing has triggered an outpouring of grief among friends, fellow corps members, and members of the university community, many of whom have expressed disbelief over the tragic development.
The incident has also sparked renewed conversations around health monitoring and emergency response during physically demanding activities, especially among young adults.
