‘I apologised because he promised me money’ -Tracy Ohiri explains why she withdrew her apology

A Nigerian businesswoman, Tracy Ohiri, has stirred fresh controversy after alleging that she was compelled to withdraw earlier accusations made against the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.
Tracy Ohiri’s retraction raises new questions
Ohiri had first made a video that went viral, accusing Umahi of owing her and making passes at her.
Then she made a video retracting her allegations, while also issuing a public apology to the minister.
She has now made a U-turn again, claiming that the retraction was not made voluntarily.
According to her, she was influenced into making the video under the impression that certain conditions would be met.
She alleged that her legal representative was used as a channel to pressure her into clearing the minister’s name.
Ohiri further stated that there had been an understanding that she would receive full payment before the video was made public.
She claimed this agreement was not honoured, as the video was allegedly released without her consent and without the promised payment.
Earlier apology contradicted
In her earlier statement, Ohiri maintained that her decision to withdraw the allegations followed consultations with her family, friends, and legal advisers.
She also apologised to Umahi for any embarrassment the claims may have caused him and his family.
Additionally, she had indicated that there was no formal contract in place, suggesting that any materials she produced might have been used without the minister’s direct knowledge.
Public reactions trail conflicting claims
The contradictory narratives have triggered widespread reactions, with many Nigerians expressing mixed opinions about the situation and raising concerns about credibility, due process, and accountability.
Amid the backlash, Ohiri appealed for understanding, warning that her experience could happen to others, as the situation continues to generate debate online.
