A Nigerian woman has shared an emotional account online after learning that her former boyfriend died just days after completing traditional marriage rites with another woman.
The woman, Chinonyerem Judith Godwin, revealed in a Facebook post that she had been in a relationship with the man for three years and had expected to marry him.
According to her, the relationship had progressed to the point where he proposed and visited her family to seek their consent for marriage.

However, events took an unexpected turn when he suddenly cut off communication and blocked her without explanation.
She explained that months later, she discovered through posts by his friends on social media that he had moved on and was preparing for an engagement ceremony with another woman.
“I called his friend again, and that was when he told me the truth. He said my ex claimed he had found someone he truly loves and wants to spend the rest of his life with,” she recounted, adding that the revelation left her emotionally devastated.
She recalled that the most painful part of the situation was that she did not know what she did to trigger the action of her ex-boyfriend.
Tragic twist after marriage rites
In a shocking development, she later learned that her former partner was involved in a fatal car accident and died instantly.
The incident reportedly occurred about a week after he completed the payment of bride price to his new partner’s family.
Reflecting on the situation, she described feeling a mix of grief and perspective, noting that while the experience was painful, it also changed how she viewed what might have been.
“But at the same time, I thank God for everything. Because if things had gone the way I planned, I might have become a widow at a very young age,” she wrote.
