Grandmother hacked to death in her house by unknown men in Lagos

A grandmother has been killed during a violent attack at her residence in Iyana-Isashi, Ojo area of Lagos State. Her neighbour, who reportedly witnessed the incident, was chased to his house and critically injured.

The victim’s daughter, a hairstylist based in Lekki, said the attack occurred on Saturday, March 14, while she was at work. 

She explained that she received a phone call from a nurse who lives in the same neighbourhood, informing her that her mother had been attacked and seriously injured.

According to the daughter, she immediately left her workplace to return home and also contacted her sister, asking her to head to the house. However, her sister arrived earlier and later informed her that their mother had died.

The grieving daughter said she went straight to a nearby police station when she heard the news. 

There, she met members of the community who had gathered to report the incident to authorities. She also said she was shown her mother’s body at the station.

When she later returned to the family home, she reportedly discovered signs indicating that a struggle had occurred. 

The scene suggested the victim had been leaving the bathroom when she was attacked. Blood stains were seen in the compound, and a cutlass believed to have been used during the assault was reportedly recovered at the scene.

Residents said a man living in a neighbouring compound was also attacked shortly after the incident. The man was believed to have witnessed what happened to the elderly woman.

According to accounts from the community, the attacker allegedly pursued the neighbour into his compound. Evidence such as footprints and signs of forced entry over a barrier separating the two houses reportedly indicated that the assailant may have tried to silence the witness.

The injured man was found unconscious but still breathing and was later taken for medical attention.

Although no suspect has been officially identified, the victim’s daughter said she suspects a relative who had allegedly been threatening her mother over a dispute concerning the house where the incident occurred. 

She claimed the relative had previously warned that the elderly woman should vacate the property.

She also alleged that the man’s son, who was recently released from prison, might have been involved in the attack.

The daughter has called on authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to identify those responsible for the killing and ensure justice for her mother.

The incident has left residents of the community in shock, with many gathering outside the house where the attack took place as police began preliminary inquiries into the case.
