The family of the Omeigbo brothers, who lost their lives in a devastating fire outbreak in Lagos, has announced plans for their burial, weeks after the tragic incident that claimed several lives.

The victims, Chuwuebuka Omeigbo and Chukwudubem Omeigbo, were among those who died when a fire engulfed the Great Nigeria Insurance House, a multi-storey commercial building on Lagos Island.

The inferno, which occurred on December 24, 2025, spread rapidly through the structure and adjoining buildings, trapping occupants inside.

According to reports, the two brothers had rushed to the market located inside the building to evacuate their goods after the fire started. However, part of the building collapsed during the blaze, leaving them trapped inside.

Family members said preparations are ongoing for their final rites, with relatives, friends and sympathisers expected to gather to pay their last respects. The tragedy has drawn widespread sympathy from members of the public and people from their hometown.

The fire incident at the high-rise building caused panic across Lagos Island as thick smoke billowed into the sky and traders fled the area. Emergency responders battled the blaze for hours before it was eventually brought under control.

Authorities later revealed that the fire reportedly began on one of the lower floors of the building before spreading to other sections and nearby structures. A section of the building eventually collapsed during the incident, worsening the destruction and trapping several occupants.

The Omeigbo brothers were among a number of victims affected by the disaster, which reignited concerns over fire safety standards and emergency preparedness in densely populated commercial districts in Lagos.

Since news of their deaths emerged, condolences have continued to pour in from friends, business associates and community members, many of whom described the brothers as hardworking and committed to supporting their family.

The burial ceremony is expected to attract relatives from different parts of the country, as well as members of their community who will gather to mourn the loss and celebrate the lives of the two brothers.
