A man identified as Opeyemi Lawal has reportedly died after he was allegedly assaulted by car park officials at the Marina car park in Lagos Island.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday after Lawal was accused of theft within the car park located in Lagos.

Details of the incident were shared by a Facebook user, Sheriff Ojon, who alleged that the victim was severely beaten by two park officials before he later died from the injuries he sustained.

Ojon claimed the attackers tied Lawal’s hands and legs while assaulting him. He added that several residents and passersby reportedly pleaded with the men to release the victim, but their appeals were ignored.

According to the account, the victim also begged to be freed, saying he was close to dying, but the suspects allegedly refused to untie him.

An eyewitness quoted in the account alleged that one of the attackers insisted he would not release Lawal, claiming the victim had insulted him two days earlier.

Following the incident, some residents reportedly staged a protest at a nearby police division on Monday, demanding justice over the victim’s death.

In one of the videos circulating online, a woman said several traders in the area had pleaded with one of the alleged assailants, identified simply as “Alhaji,” to release Lawal, but he refused.

Images of the deceased shared online reportedly showed bruises on parts of his body.

When contacted for comment, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, did not respond to calls and messages at the time the report was filed.
