Boyfriend absconds, as girlfriend’s body is found in front of his room in Ibadan (Video)
The Oyo State Police Command has begun a manhunt for a 29-year-old man after a 26-year-old woman, Precious Mogaji, was found dead outside his residence in Ibadan.
Mogaji was reportedly discovered lifeless at the entrance of her boyfriend’s room in the Oguntula area of Ojoo in the Oyo State capital.
Police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, saying the command had launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
According to him, the case was reported to the police shortly after midnight by a passerby who noticed the woman’s body at the doorway of the apartment belonging to her boyfriend, identified as Quadri Mohammed.
Preliminary findings showed that officers from the Ojoo Police Division were immediately dispatched to the scene after the report was received.
“Upon arrival, the lifeless body of the victim was found lying on the floor at the entrance of the suspect’s room,” the statement said.
The police said the scene was examined and documented as part of standard investigative procedures, while photographs were taken to aid the investigation.
Following the initial examination, the body was moved to a hospital where it was deposited in the morgue for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities also clarified that the incident occurred in the Oguntula area of Ojoo and not in Akobo as earlier reported by some media outlets.
The police added that reports suggesting a husband attempted to place his wife’s corpse in a car trunk were inaccurate.
Investigators later discovered that the victim’s boyfriend had fled the area and is currently at large.
The police said efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the suspect as the investigation continues.
The command also appealed to members of the public who may have useful information to contact the nearest police station or reach out to the state command to assist in the investigation.
