The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the appointment of Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force.

Placid replaces Benjamin Hundeyin, who previously served as the police spokesperson at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Sunday by Hundeyin, who signed the release as the outgoing spokesperson.

According to the statement, Placid brings years of experience in policing, administration, intelligence operations, training and international peacekeeping assignments.

Born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the new police spokesperson is from Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.

Placid holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo and a Master’s degree in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos. He also studied law at the National Open University of Nigeria where he obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree.

He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1996 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police at the Police Academy in Kano and was commissioned two years later.

Throughout his career, Placid has undergone several professional courses, including the United Nations Peace Operations Specialised Training programme, gaining certifications in police studies, military studies, gender awareness, international humanitarian law, human rights and civilian protection.

He has served in multiple operational and administrative roles within and outside Nigeria, including as Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State and at the Police Staff College in Jos.

His international assignments include roles with the African Union Mission in Sudan and the United Nations Mission in Darfur, where he handled training and development responsibilities.

Placid has also served as Divisional Police Officer in several locations and held senior operational and intelligence positions in states including Akwa Ibom, Kogi and Abia.

He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and a trainer on international humanitarian law with the International Committee of the Red Cross.

A graduate of the Senior Executive Course 47 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Placid was inducted as a Member of the National Institute in December 2025. He is married with children and enjoys music and various sports, including football, basketball and table tennis.
