Lady claims boss fired her after she paid for extra bus seats in his presence during work trip

A Nigerian woman has sparked debate on social media after alleging that her employer dismissed her from work for offering to pay for additional bus seats during a work trip so she could arrive in time for an examination.
The lady, identified as Cleopatrapixy on TikTok, shared her experience in a post on the platform, explaining that the incident occurred during a work assignment in Agbor.
The assignment began on a Friday and was scheduled to end on Monday.
According to her account, she had earlier informed her boss that she had an important examination scheduled for Tuesday morning and requested that they return to Benin City on Monday evening after completing their assignment.
Cleopatra said the job was completed on Monday afternoon, after which she suggested that they leave immediately.
However, her boss reportedly declined, saying he was too tired and preferred that they depart early the following morning instead.
The woman said their departure the next day was delayed and that by the time they arrived at the motor park, it was already around 9:30 a.m.
Cleopatra added that the commercial bus they intended to board could not depart immediately because it still required two more passengers before leaving.
Concerned about missing her examination, she said she offered to pay for the two remaining seats so the vehicle could depart without further delay.
According to her, the decision angered her boss, who accused her of being disrespectful.
“He said I was disrespectful and doing ‘see finish,’ insisting that a woman should not pay for seats when a man is present,” she wrote.
Despite the disagreement, the woman said she went ahead to pay for the seats in order to make the journey on time and avoid missing her exam.
Cleopatra claimed that the incident later led to her being sidelined in her office and ultimately led to her leaving the job.
According to her, she was asked to apologise, but she refused because she believed she did nothing wrong.
Her story has since generated mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians debating whether her action was appropriate or whether her boss overreacted.
