“In 40 years of marriage, we’ve never raised our voices at each other” – Oluremi Tinubu

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, on Thursday evening reflected on her nearly four decades of marriage to President Bola Tinubu, saying respect, patience and faith are essential ingredients for a lasting relationship.
She spoke during an interfaith breaking of fast event held at the Old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The gathering brought together religious leaders and dignitaries for a joint observance of Ramadan and Lent as part of efforts to promote unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians of different faiths.
Addressing the participants, the First Lady shared personal reflections on her marriage, describing it as an example of harmony despite religious differences.
“Some of us are married to men of different faiths, and we have lived together peacefully for many years. Me, almost 40 years,” she said.
“I can tell you that I cannot remember when both of us raised our voices at each other. We’ve been quite mature and respectful about that, and I believe that’s the best way to live together.”
Tinubu also stressed the role of faith in sustaining relationships, noting that her interactions with people who do not acknowledge God often do not endure.
According to her, belief in God and mutual respect form the foundation of strong and enduring partnerships.
She urged Nigerians to embrace tolerance and understanding, adding that peaceful coexistence among people of different religious backgrounds is crucial for national unity.
