A disturbing video circulating on social media shows a group of armed men believed to be Boko Haram terrorists boasting about their presence in Ngoshe, a community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

In the trending footage, the gunmen, who appear heavily armed, were seen celebrating what they described as a successful operation in the town.

One of the men, speaking in Hausa, claimed their group had defied earlier claims that Ngoshe could not be captured.

“They said we cannot come into Ngoshe town. Here we are today in Ngoshe,” the speaker said in the video while addressing the camera.

The footage surfaced shortly after reports emerged of a deadly assault on the community.

According to reports, the attackers stormed the town, set a military base ablaze and fired sporadically during the raid, forcing many residents to flee for safety.

In another part of the video, the spokesperson claimed the group had already taken control of the area and was speaking from inside the town’s central mosque.

He also suggested the fighters intended to remain in the community.

The gunmen further declared plans to celebrate the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr prayers in Ngoshe after the end of Ramadan, while describing the town as part of their newly claimed territory.

Reports following the attack indicate that several residents were killed during the invasion, while many others were abducted by the attackers. Survivors were forced to flee the community, leaving behind their homes and belongings.

Witnesses said the assault lasted for hours before security forces later mobilised to push the attackers back into nearby forest areas.

The incident has heightened fears among residents in communities across southern Borno, with many displaced persons currently seeking refuge in neighbouring towns.

Authorities have yet to release a detailed official statement regarding the viral video, but security operations in the area are ongoing as efforts continue to restore stability in the region.
