A 30-year-old officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Wofai Benson Akpama, has been discovered dead in his residence in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State.

Akpama was found unresponsive in his apartment located at No. 34 Mbora Street, Etta-Agbor, within Calabar Municipality. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.

A resident of the area, who identified herself as Joy Benson of Holland Street, said she alerted authorities on Friday after noticing what she described as a sudden and unusual death. According to her, police officers responded promptly and inspected the scene.

She stated that security operatives arrived shortly after the report was made and examined the body at the apartment.

Sources within the police said there were no visible signs of injury on the deceased, and preliminary observations did not immediately suggest foul play. However, investigators have not ruled out any possibilities.

The remains were subsequently transferred to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, where an autopsy is expected to determine the exact cause of death.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said the incident was reported last week and is currently under investigation.

He noted that no suspect has been identified at this stage, adding that further details would emerge as inquiries continue.
