Civic teacher, 23, in tears after SS1 student allegedly calls her ugly in class (Video)
A video trending on social media captures a 23-year-old government school teacher in tears after she says a Senior Secondary School 1 (SS1) student insulted her appearance during a Civic Education lesson.
The young educator, who teaches Civic Education at a public secondary school, recounted the incident in the footage that has been shared widely on X.
According to her, the episode unfolded while she was teaching, when a male student in the front row was restless. She asked if he was okay, and he responded affirmatively, but later refused to sit properly.
As she stepped out of the classroom briefly, the student allegedly shouted at her, saying: “You no even fine sef” and “You too wowo,” comments aimed at belittling her looks.
Those remarks reportedly triggered a strong emotional reaction, leading the teacher to break down as she described the verbal assault.
In the video, she linked the experience to past struggles with body-shaming from different stages of her life, including family comparisons and past relationships.
The teacher used the moment to call on parents to pay closer attention to their children’s upbringing and behaviour, urging that proper training at home could help prevent such hurtful interactions in schools.
Reactions online have been mixed. Some social media users have rallied behind the teacher, saying the incident highlights a lack of respect for educators and the need for stronger behaviour standards in classrooms.
Others have suggested that students should be taught boundaries and discipline, especially in public schools where teachers may encounter challenging behaviour.
The school involved has not yet issued an official statement, and it remains unclear whether any disciplinary action will be taken against the student.
