New details have emerged about the gunman, Ndiaga Diagne, who fatally shot two people and injured 14 others at a bar in Austin, Texas.

Ndiaga Diagne, 53, was shot dead by responding officers at the scene.

Authorities said he was wearing a sweatshirt bearing the inscription “Property of Allah” during the attack, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

During a press briefing, Alex Doran, Acting Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), stated that investigators had identified elements suggesting a “potential nexus to terrorism.” However, he cautioned that it was premature to determine a clear motive.

Law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence on Sunday. An official with direct knowledge of the probe said investigators recovered an Iranian flag and photographs of Iranian leaders.

Sources also indicated that a copy of the Quran was found inside the suspect’s vehicle.

Authorities believe the suspect acted alone. Police reported that he was armed with both a handgun and a rifle during the attack.

Two law enforcement sources told CBS News that investigators are examining whether the suspect may have been influenced by extremist ideology.

At the same time, they noted that he had previously experienced mental health episodes in Austin, and that this history is also being considered as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Officials emphasised that the investigation remains active and that conclusions could change as more evidence is reviewed. They are also exploring whether the suspect may have self-radicalised.

The shooting occurred a day after the United States and Israel reportedly launched military strikes against Iran.

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that President Donald Trump had been briefed on the incident.

According to reports, Diagne arrived in the United States in 2000 on a tourist visa, obtained permanent residency in 2006, and became a naturalised citizen in 2013. He is said to have lived in New York before relocating to Texas.
