The widow of a businessman, Joel Umwueni Isibor, who was assassinated in Benin City, Edo State, on April 25, 2025, has expressed her anguish at losing her husband at a time when he was to start enjoying the fruit of his labour.

She took to TikTok to post a video of a magnificent building her late husband was constructing in Benin City before he was assassinated in his shop.

The widow, known as GoldenBJoel on TikTok, recalled the sad day she lost her husband, a 42-year-old estate developer and boutique owner.

Gunmen stormed Isibor’s premises in Benin City and shot him at close range as he was closing his store for the day. Nothing was taken during the attack — suggesting the motive may have been targeted rather than opportunistic.

GoldenBJOel posted a video of labourers working on a gigantic building. She added clips of Isibor’s coffin and gravesite.

She wrote: “My husband toiled to build a house, but evil people allow him to park to the grave”, adding crying emojis.

Recalling the sad day, the grieving widow said they were in church and returned home. She said the children requested data to watch television as they used a smart TV.

The widow said she told the children to call their father, who promised to take care of it. She recalled that not more than an hour later, she got a call from someone saying that she should rush to a hospital where they had taken her husband.

She met him dead.

The widow tearfully narrated the frustration of tracking down his killers, lamenting that the policemen were demanding money to enable them investigate the case.

She said she later told her brothers-in-law to forget the case after she saw her husband in a dream, instructing her not to give money to the police.
