
A 35-year-old man, Patrick Sarpong, was killed Monday night after being struck by a tractor-trailer while clearing snow from his vehicle in the aftermath of a powerful blizzard that blanketed parts of Massachusetts with more than three feet of snow.
According to the Massachusetts State Police, the victim, Patrick Sarpong of Vernon, Connecticut, had been travelling westbound on Interstate 90 when he pulled over near the 104.6-mile marker in Hopkinton at about 11:15 p.m.
Authorities said Sarpong exited his vehicle and was removing accumulated snow from it along the roadside when a passing tractor-trailer struck him.
Emergency responders from the Westborough Fire Department transported him to a nearby hospital with severe injuries. He was later pronounced dead.
Officials have not yet released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether the truck driver remained at the scene or if any charges will be filed.
The fatal incident occurred amid the aftermath of what has been referred to as the Blizzard of ’26, which caused hazardous road conditions across the state. Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
